Virginia Tourism Corporation Please Certify the New Greater Williamsburg Tourist Information Center

The new Greater Williamsburg Tourist Information Center will bring increased business into the greater Williamsburg , Virginia , area by directing travelers from I-64 into Williamsburg for information, directions, reservations, amenities and general assistance.  Three independent consultant reports have indicated that the area was lacking and would benefit from an independent tourist information center.   Thus, the Center was created and implemented by the Williamsburg Hotel & Motel Association in early 2010 with an initial investment of over $200,000.  Having worked with the state to meet requirements for certification as a visitor/welcome center, the Center is awaiting approval from the state Virginia Tourism Corporation.  The VTC  has denied approval until it received evidence of local support of the new Greater Williamsburg Tourist Information Center.  The Center needs the Tourism agency’s certification before the Virginia Department of Transportation will install Tourist Information Center directional signs along the highways.
